MUST HAVE HOTEL MANAGER/DIRECTOR EXPERIENCE WITH A LUXURY BRAND TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THE ROLE
The Hotel Director's primary function is the full responsibility of guest satisfaction in all service areas of the vessel.
The Hotel Director has the ultimate responsibility to ensure that all heads of department exceed all guest expectations on board. They need to lead by example and encourage Seabourn moments on a daily basis. Decisions on all financial aspects should always be in line with company standards and any last minute changes to be communicated to the guests in a timely manner with alternative arrangements.
Reporting relationships:
The Hotel Director reports directly to the Master supported by the shore side office.
 Position has 9 professional level reports – Cruise Director 1, Guest Service Manager 1, Food and Beverage Manager 1, Chief Purser 1, Executive Housekeeper 1, Tour Manager 1, Revenue Concessions 3. 



Key Responsibilities

  1. To be familiar with and execute the Seabourn HESS-MS appropriate to their position.
  2. Responsible to co-ordinate all Hotel Department heads to ensure a smooth and flawless operation.
  3. Together with the ships management to co-ordinate and execute onboard safety, environmental and maintenance procedures.
  4. In all of the above areas the Hotel Director is responsible for seeing that the systems and procedures set forth in the SOP manual are carried out with the utmost economical consistency and that all guest service activities are accomplished at the highest standard expected by the guests.
  5. Achieve an awareness of all guest complaints and deal directly with those complaints, which require intervention by ship’s management.
  6. Ensure shore side Guest Relations department is fully informed of all complaints that might result in post-voyage communication with guests.
  7. Ensure that supplies ordered are appropriate for the quantities of supplies on hand and the total quantity required for the expected number of guests.
  8. Ensure all ship’s purchases are properly documented in accordance with the company policies.
  9. Ensure that goods delivered to the vessel are in compliance with the company’s specifications for the item. In case sub-standard items are delivered, inform the appropriate shore side department so that adjustment might be claimed.
  10. Ensure all personnel have fixed working hours and that those hours are appropriate to the levels of service required and comply with MLC2006.
  11. Ensure all personnel evaluations are carried out in accordance with company policy. In addition, maintain personal familiarity with individuals within the Hotel Department with a view to determine those worthy of promotion.
  12. Managing budgets and financial plans as well as controlling expenditure
  13. Plans the voyage layout in cooperation with the management team.
  14. Ensures the well being of all guests and crew onboard.
  15. Have daily meetings with Heads of Department to coordinate and monitor the progress of business strategies.
  16. Host tables as per company policy.
  17. Setting the example for staff to deliver a standard of service and presentation that exceeds guests' needs and expectations.


Qualifications

Education:

  • Possess a diploma from an international recognized hotel school or university, plus a minimum of three years serving as Hotel Manager or Food & Beverage Manager on board a 5-star ship.
  • Have completed appropriate human resources training, including craft trainer or equivalent. The “Training for Managers” program as provided by Johnson & Wales University will satisfy this requirement.
  • Have completed U.S.P.H. and U.K.P.H. training and go through a refreshment course every 5 years.
  • Speak English fluently. Proficiency in German, French and/or Tagalog would be an advantage. Have completed Crowd Management training.

Experience:

  • The Hotel Director should have a minimum of 5 years experience in a similar position aboard a 5star luxury brand.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Have exposure to budgeting techniques and financial analysis. Excellent communication with guests.
  • Great leadership skill to teach others.


Physical Demands & Travel

Physical Demands: 

For the safety of yourself and others on board certain physical abilities shall be maintained. Must be able to bend, climb, perform repetitive motion, and repetitively heavy lift. 
Must maintain physical fitness to perform tasks associated with job. 

Travel Requirements:

  • Passport – valid for a minimum of 6 month
  • Flag state issued seaman book
  • General flag state or flag state approved marine fitness medical United States C1/D visa
  • English Marlin test at minimal score of 80% 
  • Pre-employment medical examination 

Working Conditions:
Working on a cruise ship is very different from any land-based occupation. Working hours are longer and work is more intense due to the constant demand of the guests. You have to be very flexible in your working hours, which on occasion might have to be changed due to unforeseen circumstances. The Maritime Labour Convention of 2006 however strictly regulates these. Apart from the working hours there are strict rules which all members of the ship’s company need to adhere to as stipulated by the Master’s standing orders. You work in close proximity with your fellow crewmembers and therefore respect among all is essential.
