Pastry Chef

We are looking for Pastry Chef to work onboard River Ships season 2022 (starting approx. August 2022):

1. EXPERIENCE/ SKILLS/ CHARACTER

• Must have strong knowledge of international cuisine;
• Proven experience as Pastry Chef, baker or relevant role;
• Great attention to detail and creativity;
• Organizing and leadership skills;
• Willingness to replenish professional knowledge;
• In depth knowledge of sanitation principles, food preparation and baking techniques and nutrition;
• Working knowledge of baking with ingredient limitations (pastries that are gluten free, sugarless etc.);
• Certificate in culinary arts, pastry-making, baking or relevant field;
• Must have knowledge of the HACCP standards;
• Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment;
• Ability to work cohesively with fellow colleagues as part of a team;
• Ability to focus attention on guest needs, remaining calm and courteous at all times;
• Must have English and/ or German language skills;
• Must be reliable and able to work unsupervised;
• Must be able to work flexible time schedule and to the Company’s standards.

2. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Be friendly to passengers and crew as well as focused on job tasks;
• Prepare a wide variety of goods such as cakes, cookies, pies, bread etc. following traditional and modern recipes;
• Create new and exciting desserts to renew the menus and engage the interest of the passengers;
• Decorate pastries using different icings, toppings etc. to ensure the presentation will be beautiful and exciting;
• Monitor stocks for baking ingredients such as flour, sugar etc. and make appropriate orders within budget;
• Check quality of material and condition of equipment and devices used for cooking;
• Guide and motivate pastry assistants to work more efficiently;
• Maintain a lean and orderly cooking station and adhere to health and safety standards;
• Perform all duties assigned efficiently, follow the Company’s standards, adhere to procedures of the training manual.
