Environmental Coordinator - Ocean Cay Marine Reserve

JOB PURPOSE

Job Purpose:

Coordinates closely with the Ocean Cay EHS Officer on the administration and continuous appropriateness of the Ocean Cay Marine Reserve's environmental, health, safety, and social management system (EHSS MS) (OCMR). Regular communication ensures that goals are created and that progress toward reaching requirements is tracked.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Key Responsibilities:

• Assists with the entire administration of Ocean Cay's environmental programme, including but not limited to waste management, training, compliance, auditing, and reporting.
• As needed, coordinates, and oversees logistics and waste disposal activities, ensuring complete compliance with all applicable rules and Company standards.
• Monitors daily actions to ensure compliance with all applicable environmental legislation and corporate policies, as well as interaction with Company vessels.
• Drives operational actions by communicating with the island's EHSO daily.• Assists the EHSO with governmental obligations, such as the current Environmental Impact Assessment, environmental and social management plans, and advising on future modifications or expansions.
• Maintains the necessary Environmental Permits, Consents, and Approvals in close collaboration with the EHSO.
• Ensures that waste management processes, such as collection, segregation, storage, and authorised disposal, are properly implemented, understood, and followed by all vessels when they interact with the island.
• Analyses, monitor, and report on EHS data and performance provided by the EHSO, identifying strengths and weaknesses, and establishing suitable targets aimed at continual improvement of related processes and activities.
• Keeps all relevant environmental documents up to date and accessible and compile all EHS reporting data into monthly reports.
• Compiles all data on marine animals and other wildlife sightings provided by the EHSO.
• Collects and monitors data from the Coral Restoration Area and future Coral Planting sites, preparing reports as needed.
• Collaborates closely with the EHSO in the administration of ISO 14001 certifications as needed, as well as the development and monitoring of key environmental aspects as needed.
• Maintains the ESMS and contributes/prepares the annual Environmental and Social Self-Monitoring Report (ESSMR) in partnership with the EHSO, reporting results to the VP Environmental Operations & Compliance.
• Provides support and logistical help to the Lenders Representative to facilitate the yearly third-party audit.
• Makes recommendations to the VP Environmental Operations & Compliance for areas for improvement, including steps to ensure alignment with Company commitments.
• Analyses budget and financial accounts for OCMR, providing feedback to VP Environmental Operations & Compliance.
• Researches, follows, and updates environmental legislation, as well as national and international rules pertaining to the Ocean Cay Marine Reserve.
• Participates in all Environmental Department projects and collaborative projects involving various MSC Cruises Departments.
• Performs additional relevant responsibilities as needed by the operational department

QUALIFICATIONS

Job-Requirements: skills, competencies, experience

• Proficient in both oral and written English. Knowing other main European languages is advantageous.
• University studies in environmental science are desired. Post-graduate studies in the field of interest are preferred.
• A thorough understanding of the cruise/maritime industry. Experience as an Environmental Officer on cruise ships or in employment in island destinations is preferred.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office and other company-specific operating systems and databases.
• Capable of managing communication at all levels Capable of leading and contributing to a peaceful and effective team environment.
• Understanding and interpretation of numerous complicated regulations and environmental issues.
• Understanding and interpretation of various financial concerns affecting the Department
• Capability to work in a multicultural and international workplace
• Capability to execute under duress
