Key Responsibilities

• Audio Operations & Mixing
  Operate and mix live audio for a wide variety of performances including production shows, live bands, solo musicians, and guest entertainers. Ensure consistent, high-quality sound reinforcement across all venues, adapting to different performance styles and technical requirements.
  
  
• System Management & Maintenance
  Oversee the daily operation, calibration, and maintenance of all onboard audio systems, including digital and analog consoles, wireless microphone systems, in-ear monitors, playback systems, and speaker arrays. Proactively identify and resolve technical issues to minimize downtime and ensure seamless show execution.
  
  
• Show Preparation & Execution
  Collaborate with the Production Manager – Audio and Entertainment Technical team to prepare for each performance. This includes loading and programming show files, conducting sound checks, setting up microphones and monitors, and ensuring all audio cues are executed accurately during live shows.
  
  
• Technical Collaboration
  Work closely with lighting, video, automation, and stage management teams to coordinate technical elements and ensure cohesive production values. Participate in production meetings and contribute to creative problem-solving and show enhancements.
  
  
• Equipment Inventory & Documentation
  Maintain accurate records of all audio equipment, including inventory tracking, maintenance logs, and system configurations. Assist in managing spare parts and consumables to ensure readiness for repairs or replacements.
  
  
• Training & Mentorship
  Support the development of junior audio technicians by providing hands-on training, guidance, and feedback. Foster a culture of safety, professionalism, and continuous improvement within the technical team.
  
  
• Guest Experience & Quality Control
  Monitor and evaluate the audio quality of all performances from the audience perspective. Make real-time adjustments as needed to ensure an immersive and enjoyable experience for guests.
  
  
• Compliance & Safety
  Adhere to all company policies, maritime regulations, and safety protocols. Ensure that all audio operations are conducted in a safe and compliant manner, including proper cable management, equipment handling, and emergency procedures.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

• Minimum of 3–5 years of professional experience in live audio production, ideally within theatrical, touring, cruise ship, or similar large-scale entertainment environments.
• Strong proficiency in live audio mixing for musical theatre, bands, solo acts, and guest entertainers, with the ability to adapt to different genres and performance styles.
• Hands-on experience operating and maintaining professional digital audio consoles (e.g. Midas or similar), playback systems, wireless microphone systems, and in-ear monitoring solutions.
• Working knowledge of loudspeaker systems and system tuning, including alignment, calibration, and basic diagnostics for line arrays and distributed audio systems.
• Familiarity with show control and multimedia integration, including coordination with lighting, video, and automation systems; experience with platforms such as Green Hippo media servers and MA Lighting or comparable systems is an advantage.
• Strong technical troubleshooting skills with the ability to remain calm, focused, and solutions-oriented under pressure during live performances.
• Proven ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary production team, building positive relationships with performers, stage management, and fellow technicians.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the confidence to give and receive feedback in a multicultural, fast-paced onboard environment.
• Experience supervising, coaching, or mentoring junior audio or technical staff is preferred.
• High level of personal organisation, attention to detail, and commitment to maintaining accurate technical documentation, inventories, and maintenance logs.
• Willingness and ability to live and work onboard a cruise ship for extended contracts (typically around 6 months), including working evenings, weekends, and holidays as scheduled.
• Formal training such as a degree or diploma in Audio Engineering, Sound Design, Technical Theatre, or a related field is preferred; manufacturer or industry certifications are an asset.
• Solid understanding of safety protocols related to live entertainment environments, with awareness of maritime safety expectations and a willingness to complete required STCW and company safety training.
