PURPOSE OF POSITION

  • The Utility/Hotel Custodial cleans and maintains all Guest/crew public areas, cleans and maintains all officer/crew cabins and pool areas, according to company standards and procedures. This position rotates in various housekeeping operations, as required by the department.
  • You are required to work both day and night shifts, as required.
  • It is your responsibility to create a friendly, guest-oriented service culture to ensure Guest satisfaction.
  • You are required to report any maintenance issues in your assigned areas.

 

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Clean all public Guest areas, back of house (BOH) and crew areas. Regular cleaning of officer and crew cabins.
  • Clean assigned Guest & crew corridors, trolleys, lockers, and pantries.
  • Work with and use various chemical cleaning products and floorcare equipment.
  • Remove dirty dishes and/or glassware from public areas.
  • Ensure that cleaning equipment is kept in good working order, reporting any maintenance and/or repair needs to the Assistant Chief Housekeeper.
  • Assist Guests with directions and general information in Guest areas, according to Viking’s STAR Service Standard.
  • Correctly handle cleaning products, materials and housekeeping equipment, segregating garbage, and making sure that all Public Health Standards are maintained.
  • Participate in luggage duty on embarkation & disembarkation day.
  • Participate in “The Daily Reunion” every day to understand your team’s operational needs and to ensure consistent adherence to Viking’s STAR Service Standards.
  • Provide the highest level of comfort and service to Guests and consistently maintain an impeccable standard of cleanliness and hygiene in assigned areas, as per Viking’s STAR Service Standards and all Public Health Policies; proactively prepare service according to Guest flow, embarkation & disembarkation, sea day activities & other activities.
  • Ensure you always wear the appropriate and task specific Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required for your duties onboard. Always use correct lifting techniques to prevent injuries.
  • Uphold impeccable grooming standards at all times by complying with Viking’s Image and Uniform Standards.
  • Ensure that company property is appropriately secured and protected, especially during rough weather conditions, in order to prevent unnecessary loss or damage.
  • Demonstrate outstanding flexibility: able to work at different times of the day, under pressure and reflect a positive can-do attitude and the best image of Viking at all times.
  • Assist in other departments and/or perform additional duties, upon instruction from supervisors.
  • Set & clear pool deck chairs and sunbeds, ensuring that the pool area is show ready at all times.
  • Ensure that the towel station is stocked with clean towels; distribute cold and/or hot face towels to Guests.
  • Assist the Stateroom Host/ess with managing the stateroom minibars during each cruise, as required by the Executive Housekeeper.

YOUR PROFILE

  • One year’s experience as a Utility/Hotel Custodial or similar position in a premium brand hospitality environment, or a formal hospitality training and a minimum of 6 months experience, is required; previous hotel and shipboard experience is preferred.
  • Must have good English communication skills, including an ability to fluently interact with native English-speaking guests.
  • Guest-focused, service-oriented, positive personality, professional appearance and impeccable hygiene standards are required; must be flexible and stress resistant, team player, shows commitment.
  • Must be able to work with various chemicals, hazardous materials, and cleaning tools.
  • Knowledge in floor care and experience in operating floor cleaning equipment is preferred.
  • Must be physically fit and able to handle 50+ lbs., must be able to do extensive walking and have the ability to stand on your feet for a long time.
  • Must have a comprehensive understanding of basic Public Health and Sanitary Policies compliance.

  • Ensure appropriate clothing and appearance according to Viking’s Image & Uniform Standards.
