The Refrigeration Engineer reports to the Chief or 1st Refrigeration Engineer for cooperation, maintenance and repair of the ventilation, provision, ice rink cooling equipment (where applicable), and all air conditioning.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure that all ventilation, cooling, freezing equipment, ice rink cooling equipment (where applicable) and all air conditioning equipment are kept in full and proper working condition.
- Ensure that all equipment is always operating at maximum efficiency to reduce energy and fuel costs.
- Assist the Chief Refrigeration Engineer in proper maintenance and repair of all refrigerators, walk in coolers, cold water drinking fountains, mini bar (with refrigerant gas) and ice making machines.
- Correct operation and maintenance of all chiller units, associated pumps, filters, and chilled water.
- Distribution and air handlers and relevant controllers.
- Public room control of temperatures and humidity.
- Control of temperatures and humidity in all cabin spaces.
- Working environmental temperatures throughout the vessel.
- All refrigeration equipment including provision of cooling equipment, central and remote locations.
- Responsible for all ice making equipment, all ventilation equipment and all heating equipment.
- Regular temperature log keeping of refrigeration spaces, public rooms and air handling equipment except where remotely provided.
- All stores and inventory controls are associated with the above.
- Compilation of work lists for repair/renewal and/or refurbishment of any equipment that can only be achieved during dry dock.
- Reports to the Staff and/or Chief Engineer containing maintenance activity and recommendations.
- The prompt, efficient, and courteous handling of guest complaints regarding air conditioning.
Qualifications&Training:
- Mechanical Engineer (BSc) or equivalent with specialized study in HVAC/Refrigeration systems.
- F-Gas Category 1 certification, Advanced Firefighting (AFF), and Basic Safety Training (BST) in accordance with STCW.
- Must have HVAC/Refrigeration or Engineering Education and a minimum of 5 years' experience in HVAC and Refrigeration Systems.
- Must have practical knowledge of air conditioning/refrigeration equipment operation.
- Previous experience maintaining air conditioning/refrigeration equipment onboard ships or ashore.
LanguageRequirements:
- Ability to speak English clearly, distinctly, and cordially with guests.
- Proficiency in reading and writing English to interpret procedures.
- Ability to give and receive instructions effectively in both written and verbal forms.
- Capable of effectively presenting information and responding to questions from guests, supervisors, and colleagues.
PhysicalRequirements:
- Regularly required to stand, walk, handle tools, reach, talk, hear, and taste/smell.
- Occasionally/frequently/continually lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities include close, distance, colour, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
