JOB SUMMARY
The A/V Technician – Sound is responsible for the effective operation of all audio systems for assigned venues and related operations. Reporting to the A/V Manager, this role is responsible for mixing and operating all events and performances, as well as general maintenance of the audio systems
In partnership with the A/V Technician – Lighting & Video / A/V Manager, the A/V Technician – Sound ensures the safe setup, operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of audio systems and related technical equipment used by cast and crew within assigned venues. The role actively participates in all show installations, setups, strikes, and changeovers.
The A/V Technician – Sound serves as part of the technical crew for the venue as required and may operate multiple show tracks, including Sound, Deck, and Lighting, to support smooth and professional execution of events, rehearsals and performances.
KEY TASKS
Role & Responsibilities:
Professional Standards & Conduct:
- In accordance with Azamara Cruises’ Go Further Standards, conduct oneself in a professional and courteous manner at all times. This includes physical and verbal interactions with guests, fellow shipboard employees, and behavior in guest-contact and crew areas.
- Audio Operations & Technical Execution:
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot all sound systems across assigned entertainment venues for rehearsals, shows, special events, and other onboard activities.
- Design and/or implement sound and stage effect designs for shows and events, as required.
- Create and maintain backup vocal tracks for singers during production show changeovers and on an ad‑hoc basis, as required.
- Set up and assume responsibility for the projection of films, video movies, and other assigned media playback.
Troubleshooting & Equipment Care:
- Act as an audio-visual troubleshooter to resolve equipment or stage-related issues as delegated by the A/V Manager.
- Report any equipment requiring repair or replacement to the A/V Manager and RWS Global in accordance with established procedures.
Collaboration & Guest Entertainer Support:
- Meet with guest entertainers and external groups to review and fulfill audio requirements for upcoming rehearsals, performances, and events.
- Maintain working knowledge of the ship’s standard operating procedures in order to assist guests and crew withngeneral inquiries.
Meetings, Training & Compliance:
- Attend all required meetings, trainings, courses, and work‑related activities.
- Participate in all mandatory crew and guest safety drills as required.

Qualifications & Skills:
- Education & Professional Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Theatre (Production or Technical) or equivalent in-field experience.
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience in audio-visual functions within an upscale hotel, resort, cruise ship, entertainment, or recreational industry (shipboard experience preferred).
- Cruise line or touring experience preferred but not required.
- Demonstrated proficiency with digital mixing consoles and QLab.
Technical & Professional Skills:
- Working knowledge of technical equipment, including sound, lighting, and video systems (automation and rigging experience a plus).
- Ability to analyze and evaluate technical support needs for various events and performances.
- Intermediate computer software skills.
- Strong problem-solving, organizational, and decision-making abilities.
Communication & Interpersonal Skills:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Superior customer service, team-building, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with multiple onboard departments and understand how the entertainment team integrates into the larger operation.

- Ability to remain professional and effective in high-stress environments with tight deadlines while maintaining high-quality product.
- Willingness to think quickly, adapt to changing needs, and assist outside the direct scope of work when required.

Language:
- Fluency in spoken and written English.
- Ability to read and write English in order to understand and interpret written procedures; give and receive instructions verbally and in writing; and effectively present information and respond to questions from guests, supervisors, and coworkers.
- Ability to speak additional languages such as Spanish, French, or German is preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work at height using harnesses, Genies, and ladders.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time and consistently lift up to 50 lbs / 25 kg in fulfillment of job responsibilities.
- Specific vision abilities required, including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Physically able to participate in emergency lifesaving procedures and drills, including full use and range of motion of arms and legs, and full visual, verbal, and hearing abilities to give and receive instructions in emergency situations, including lifeboat operations.
- Ability to learn and comply with all onboard safety regulations as outlined in the ship’s Safety Management System.
- Ability to successfully complete the required pre-employment medical screening, including comprehensive vaccination requirements.
Shipboard Employment Requirements:
- Ability to work seven (7) days per week for contract periods of up to six (6) to eight (8) months.
- Comfortable living and working in close quarters with coworkers from varied backgrounds.
- Valid passport with a minimum of seven (7) months remaining beyond the contract end date.
- Possession of or ability to acquire a Seaman’s book.
- Ability to obtain all required visas for the ship’s sailing itinerary.
- Completion of required STCW training prior to embarkation.
