Assistant Repairman - Aqua for Royal Caribbean Cruises

Position Summary

1. The Assistant Repairman Aqua maintains water quality, chemistry, filtration, dosing, and the mechanical functions of all pools, fountains, and related aqua systems. This role ensures USPH compliance and daily operational readiness of all aqua venues, including spas and flow-related equipment. The incumbent works under the supervision of the Facilities Manager, supports preventive and corrective maintenance, and may cross-train in other engine or aquatic systems as required. Flexibility to respond to on-call needs and shift variations is essential.

Reporting Structure

1. Reporting to the Staff Engineer, 2nd Engineer/ Facilities Manager.

 Safety Duties
1. Participates in crew and passenger safety drills according to instructions.
2. Always complies with the Company’s safety and pollution prevention regulations and operating procedures.
3. Leads by example by taking care of Health and Safety of self and others.
4. Ensures that all work equipment, personal protective equipment, chemicals and safety devices are being used correctly.
Education/Experience/Qualifications:

1. Minimum five years of experience in a water park or aquatic facility environment, with at least three years in a supervisory capacity. 
2. Bachelor of Science Degree (as stated) or equivalent technical qualification
3. Valid STCW certification.
4. Appropriate certification as required by regulations.
5. Good understanding of carpentry, woodwork, maintenance and repair.
6. Extensive experience in subordinate positions and on board passenger ships in a similar role.
7. Physically and medically fit.
8. Moral integrity is required.
9. Coast Guard, Port State Control and Public Health experience.

Language requirements:
Fluent English (verbal, written and technical). English is the working and safety language on board. This also includes the ability to give and receive instructions in verbal and written forms and to effectively and efficiently engage with guests and crew members. Additional languages are considered beneficial.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
Required to stand, walk long distances, reaching and sitting. Repetitive motion of bending, going up and down stairs, climbing ladders. Lifting or pushing of up to 50lbs. The position requires overtime work and irregular schedules. Works in all areas of the vessel with light traffic and distracting environments.

Key Responsibilities

1.  Maintain water chemistry, filtration, dosing, and mechanical systems for all pools, Jacuzzis, fountains, flow riders, and related equipment; perform pipe and hose replacements and basic mechanical repairs as needed. 
   2. Ensure all aqua systems comply with USPH maintenance and reporting requirements; keep accurate logs and records of chemical levels, treatments, and system performance. 
   3. Conduct routine and unplanned maintenance to keep aqua venues fully operational; identify and troubleshoot equipment issues; coordinate repairs with supervisors. 
   4. Monitor and control water treatment chemicals, including monitoring levels and ordering supplies; maintain backup monitors and ensure backup systems are in place. 
   5. Maintain and clean aqua venue equipment rooms, including pumps, filters, valves, and dosing equipment; ensure tools and spare parts are properly stored and labeled. 
   6. Report equipment malfunctions or safety concerns to the Facilities Manager or designated supervisor immediately; participate in safety drills and training as required. 
   7. Assist with planning and scheduling of maintenance activities; support cross-departmental cooperation to minimize downtime. 
   8. Ensure compliance with the company’s safety, quality, and environmental standards; participate in shipboard meetings and training as required. 
   9. Perform related duties as required, including basic repair work in emergencies or special circumstances.
