Responsibilities
Shipboard employees support food and beverage operations across various service venues,
maintaining professional conduct and delivering knowledgeable, attentive service to guests.
Responsibilities include describing menu items, refilling buffet stations, assisting with table
turnover, and following supervisor instructions and company policies. Employees must keep their
work areas clean in accordance with USPH standards, meet physical requirements for carrying
service trays, and stay informed about ship operations to assist guests and crew. Attendance at
required meetings and trainings is expected, and additional duties may be assigned as needed.

Essential Functions:
• Professional Conduct: Maintains professional and courteous behavior in all physical
and verbal interactions with guests and fellow crew in guest and crew areas.

• Menu Knowledge & Buffet Service: Demonstrates full knowledge of menu items, can
describe them to guests, and ensures quick refilling of food in the assigned buffet
section.
• Table Turnover Assistance: Supports all tasks needed to reset and turn tables in any
assigned restaurant venue.
• Punctuality & Compliance: Reports for duty on time and follows supervisor instructions
in accordance with company policies.
• Additional Assigned Duties: Completes any responsibilities assigned by the
Restaurant Manager as part of scheduled operations.
• Cleanliness & Sanitation: Keeps the work area clean and organized at all times in
compliance with United States Public Health (USPH) regulations.
• Physical Requirements: Has the physical ability to carry 16 covers (15–20 kg/44 lbs),
or 12 covers for female servers.
• Operational Knowledge: Maintains awareness of ship operations and acquires
necessary knowledge to assist guests and crew with questions.
• Training & Meetings: Attends all required meetings, training sessions, courses, and
related work activities.
• Other Duties as Assigned: Performs additional job-related duties as assigned by
supervisors or management as operational needs arise.
Qualifications:
• High school diploma or equivalent education required.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as recipes, manuals, and
operational instructions.
• Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations including percentages, proportions,
discounts, tips, and commissions.
Experience:
• Prior experience in food preparation or food service within a hotel, resort, cruise ship, or
banquet/convention environment (shipboard experience preferred).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to work with various variables and adapt to
changing operational needs.

• Ability to interpret written, oral, diagrammatic, or scheduled instructions.

• Familiarity with food service operations and standards used in hospitality environments.

• Excellent customer service skills with the ability to interact professionally and courteously
with guests.

• Please note that prior shipboard experience is required for this position. Candidates must hold a valid STCW, medical certificate, passport, and visa. Additionally, a minimum of 3 appraisals is required.

Language Requirements:
• Ability to speak English clearly, distinctly and cordially with guests.
• Ability to read and write English to understand and interpret written procedures. This
includes the ability to
• Give and receive instructions in written and verbal forms and to effectively present
information and respond
• Ability to speak additional languages such as Spanish, French or German preferred.
Physical Requirements:
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk;
use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; and taste or
smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision
abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral
vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
• All shipboard employees must be physically able to participate in emergency life saving
procedures and drills. Full use and range of arms and legs as well as full visual, verbal
and hearing abilities are required to receive and give instructions in the event of an
emergency including the lowering of lifeboats.
