River Captain

Join a leading European river cruise company as a River Captain and take command of a modern, premium vessel sailing along the most iconic waterways of Europe.
As the highest authority onboard, you ensure safe navigation, smooth operations, and an exceptional guest experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Safely steer the vessel from port to port across major European rivers (e.g.: Danube, Rhine, Main, Moselle, Dutch & Belgian rivers, Seine, Rhône & Saône).
• Manage and supervise all nautical‑technical operations, including maneuvering, docking, anchoring, and Z‑Drive handling.
• Monitor water levels, weather conditions, and traffic; maintain clear communication with office and onboard departments.
• Ensure full compliance with navigation laws, safety protocols, labor regulations, and the ship’s security plan.
• Lead, train, and supervise the nautical team; ensure professional appearance and performance.
• Maintain all required nautical documentation up to date.
• Collaborate closely with the Hotel Manager and Cruise Director to guarantee an outstanding guest experience.
• Interact with passengers in a friendly, professional manner.

Requirements

• Valid qualification as Captain on European rivers (Danube, Rhine, Main, Moselle, Dutch/Belgian rivers, Seine, Rhône & Saône).
• A or B river patent.
• Radar and radio certificates for the respective areas of operation.
• Experience with Z‑Drive systems.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in a similar role.
• Ability to communicate in German or English.
• Strong leadership, responsibility, and decision‑making skills.
• Excellent social skills and guest interaction abilities.
• Organized, dependable personality with a strong sense of responsibility.
